WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)
To access the WhatsApp Business Platform, a business must create a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA). Think of it as the equivalent of the WhatsApp account you create when you want to use WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business App.
If you want to access the WhatsApp Business API, you create a WABA through a Business Solution Provider (BSP). Usually, a business needs to create an account on the BSP’s portal and then can create a WABA from there. See How to Access the WhatsApp Business API; Business Solution Providers for more information.
If you want to access the WhatsApp Cloud API, you must create a WABA with Meta itself. In How to Access the WhatsApp Cloud API there is step-by-step information.
While creating a WABA through Meta or a BSP, you need the following:
- A phone number that meets Meta’s requirements. Some BSPs have their restrictions for the phone number that you must know in advance.
- A display name that meets Meta’s requirements.
- A Facebook Business Account
